A snowy getaway to Innsbruck Austria

Monday, March 4, 2013

I can say with quite certainty that Jacob and I love Austria.

The fact that it's so convenient for us to travel to might make us a bit biased, but Austria is an extremely beautiful country.

Our most recent Austrian trip was to Innsbruck, a town that is most commonly known for hosting the winter olympics a few times.

With it's colorful buildings and picturesque views, this whimsical town surrounded by both the Alps and the Dolomites makes for a wonderful weekend getaway.

As you head towards the main center of town the Triumphpforte (large arch) lets know know that you have arrived in Altstadt von Innsbruck, or "Old Town."

Old town full of various shops, numerous restaurants, cafes, and a few bars.

The best part about Innsbruck is the landscape.
You cannot make a trip out here without going to the top of the mountains.

The Nordkettenbahnen will take you all the way up the mountains, making two stops before arriving at the Hafelekar.
The Hafelekar is the highest point, standing at 2,300 meters.
It's also one of the steepest ski runs in Europe.

This was my first time at the top of a mountain, and it was spectacular.

There aren't a lot of "sites" to be seen, which makes for a nice, relaxing trip.

Since Innsbruck is conveniently located by the German boarder, we took a day trip to the Neuschwanstein castle in Bavaria that you can read about here.
It was only a mere hour and a half away, making it an ideal adventure for the day.

If you ever find yourself visiting Austria, or simply passing through, Innsbruck is a beautiful place to stop and take in the scenery.
